Spinal, Pelvic & Scapular Stabilization: Matwork & Reformer - RMR1 This course introduces you to the biomechanical principles of STOTT PILATES and their application to modified Matwork, light equipment and Reformer exercises. Emphasis is on lumbo-pelvic and shoulder girdle stabilization and the role they play in rehabilitation and injury prevention. Pilates and Rheumatoid arthritis

We have a new client that came into the studio in a wheel chair with severe Rheumatoid arthritis. After her first session she was already feeling better.
 It is a painful and sometimes debilitating condition that affects millions of people around the world. Fortunately, certain exercises can relieve some of the symptoms associated with the disease. Pilates is commonly recommended for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Pilates and Breast Cancer

I am 50, a breast cancer survivor, and a whole lot fitter, happier, and self-confident since I found Jayme and Pilates. I experienced Pilates for the first time in November 2010, after being the lucky winner of 10 lessons from the Pilates Training Center, Kailua.  I can't say I would have paid for ten Pilates lessons as I had no idea what Pilates was about (some kind of exercise that celebrities did I thought), but I was exhausted from having completed six months of chemo and radiation therapy for breast cancer.

I started Pilates very weak.  We started slowly and over time I regained strength, tone, and most importantly, self-confidence.  I was especially happy that my trainer (Jayme) tailored the workout to my physical condition.  My takeaway was you don't have to be "in shape" to derive benefit from Pilates.

In the past I was a gym going, aerobics, and personal trainer type of person. Now that I have experienced Pilates, I won't be going back to my old gym ways.

For me Pilates is a wholesome and comprehensive way to get fit and a lot of fun at the same time.  I look forward to going to Pilates and to the results that come along with it.  I appreciate the way I feel after a workout-Like I didn't waste my time and got a great work out.

Did Pilates change my life?  Perhaps.  Did Pilates change my attitude about fitness and health?  Absolutely!

Pilates and Strokes

I was introduced to this Pilates studio by my wife (a regular member) in Feb 2009, 3 months after a stroke left me paralyzed in my left arm and leg. After an initial regimen of hospital based physical and occupational therapy, established medicine could offer no further help in my recovery. Because of increasing muscle contractures and decreasing mobility, my wife suggested coming to the studio. For the past two and-a-half years I have had once a week sessions of one hour of supervised workout training followed by one hour of massage therapy. Patience, persistence and helpfulness characterize the staff's treatment and instruction. My stroke has still left me with significant left-sided weakness but I have noticed increased muscle strength, more joint mobility, and less body pain and contractions which would have left me more immobile if untreated. Plus the human interaction with caring instructors and fellow Pilates clients helped to uplift spirits and avoid the isolation that is so common a problem for stroke patients. I am grateful to my wife for the referral and to the studio for being a source of change, hope and optimism in my life. I should know a thing or two--I am a licensed physician. Pilates may not be suitable for all stroke patients. It was for me and one should consult their own physician before embarking on any fitness program. Every patient deserves a chance.

Pilates and Plantar Fasciitis

We had a new client come in today that could barely walk. She has Plantar fasciitis it , is a condition that causes heel and arch pain. It is due to irritation and inflammation of the tight tissue that forms the arch of the foot. We did a lot of eccentric lengthening of the soleus and gastrocnemius. Lower and lift on the reformer with shoes on. She walked out of the studio feeling much better.

Flat feet,knock knees.. It is a good thing that this client has started doing Pilates. The foot bar can be used in Pilates to exercise the feet while lying down on one's back. I would also use the STOTT PILATES jumpboard and cardio tramp.

Pilates and Spinal Cord injury

I love my job.. Today I was working with one of my clients that has been coming for a year now 2x a week. He has a spinal cord injury C3.. Today we worked on the BOSU and the roll down bar of the Cadillac and mimicking Stand Up Paddling..All I can say was AMAZING. Our Goal is to take this to the Ocean and have him on a Stand Up Paddle Board..

Pilates and the Pelvis

The pelvis is a ring-like structure of bones at the lower end of the trunk. The two sides of the pelvis are actually three bones (ilium, ischium, and pubis) that grow together as people age. Strong connective tissues (ligaments) join the pelvis to the large triangular bone (sacrum) at the base of the spine. This creates a bowl-like cavity below the rib cage. On each side, there is a hollow cup (acetabulum) that serves as the socket for the hip joint.

Pilates and MS

We have a new client: He has Multiple Sclerosis,he is ambulatory and confined to an electric scooter and wheel chair, from waist down nothing works. We are so happy that he will be doing Pilates and massage to help him.




MS affects the ability of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord to communicate with

each other. Nerve cells communi...cate by sending electrical signals called action potentials down long fibers called axons, which are wrapped in an insulating substance called myelin. In MS, the body's own immune system attacks and damages the myelin. When myelin is lost, the axons can no longer effectively conduct signals.[4] The name multiple sclerosis refers to scars (scleroses—better known as plaques or lesions) particularly in the white matter of the brain and spinal cord, which is mainly composed of myelin.[3] Although much is known about the mechanisms involved in the disease process, the cause remains unknown. Theories include genetics or infections. Different environmental risk factors have also been found.[4][5]
